Rapid Rate Thickeners

Sizes of our installed base of thickeners range from diameters of 1 meter to 76 meters. Primary design parameters are to offer efficient and easy operation.
Major features only available from MC Process Thickeners:
- Innovative feed dilution and supernatant cleaning device, using MC Process SX pumper technology
- A superior and distinctive lifting device that uses a single cylinder and is capable of lifting fully loaded rakes. This component offers strength and stability. It simplifies the process and removes any operational issues typically experienced during the raising and lowering of rakes.
- Thickener sizing can be confirmed by in house testing of your particular slurry or ore.

Some of our thickener design considerations include:
- High torque planetary gearbox
- Accurate torque measurement including a ‘high torque’ audible and visual alarm with ‘over torque trip’ for mechanism protection in the event of ultra-high torque conditions
- High efficiency feed well with adjustable feed dilution system
- Ability to monitor and/or operate via SCADA, if so desired
- Multiple flocculant addition points for easy optimization

High Density Thickeners
In certain processes a higher underflow density is desirable. An example of this would be in a Counter Current Decantation ‘CCD’ circuit, where a higher density will reduce the number of CCD thickeners required.
This density is not high enough for the rheology to be in the high density/paste regime. This is achieved by having a high sidewall and a modified discharge design system as well as customised rakes and pickets.
The great advantage of this design is that it allows the use of less expensive conventional centrifugal pumps as opposed to very expensive positive displacement units. This feature will still provide the highest underflow density achievable prior to the ‘knee of the curve’ in the high viscosity region

Ultra High Rate Thickeners
Ultra High Rate Thickeners offer a viable alternative to conventional thickeners; the advantages are typically lower capital and operating costs due to the ability to handle up to 50 times more throughput when compared with High Rate Thickeners.
The unit is very simple to operate and adapts to process changes. Due to the high sidewall and steep cone, underflow densities achieved are very high. We have a unique overflow polishing device on the top of the machine, which ensures very clean overflows having typically less than 25 ppm solids.
The units react quickly to changes in process conditions creating stabilisation and rapid operation after changes in the feed conditions. Due to good feed slurry and flocculant mixing of the feed slurry, the consumption of flocculant is minimised.
Simple, effective and proven technology is the key for MC Process’ Ultra High Rate Thickeners.
Due to the fact that there are no moving parts, operational and capital costs are very low. It also reduces the time required to build and erect the thickener, thus saving on costs.
Capital costs are reduced due to the machine’s smaller footprint, which has the added benefit of quick turnaround delivery times. No moving components and no electricity, keeps operating costs to a minimum.
Optimal water recovery is achieved as it produces an extremely clear overflow, whilst producing high density sludge, which is stackable and makes for easy tailings disposal.
This unit is adaptable to most processes and used essentially in mineral processing for mill circuit thickening, counter current decantation, backfill and carbon-fines recovery, dewatering and water recovery.
Simple in design and simple to operate separates M C Process from the rest.

Lamella Thickeners
M C Process Lamella Thickeners are an environmental necessity and work best in clarification duties such as waste water streams where high purification demands and rapid settling of ultra-fine particles is required.
The small footprint makes it affordable for any operation within chemical, petrochemical, municipal, general industrial and mining industries.
Standardised sizes have a capacity from 1-20 000m3/h and customised units can be designed to suit purification processes and loads. Lamella separators can be designed with built-on treatment and flocculation steps for large sludge volumes and thickening.
It features small lamella packs, which are easy to remove and handle during cleaning or maintenance and can be done whilst in operation.
The robust machine is not temperamental thus can be managed in remote environments such as the DRC.
