This chemical plant is designed to handle both caustic and acidic conditions. The plant is bunded into areas defined by these Ph values and also into wet and dry areas. Maximum use has been made of gravity, while still maintaining a cost effective structural design. Due to the nature of the plant the design lends itself to an open structure having a galvanised iron roof, with water collection gutters.
The plant has been designed with maintenance in mind. There is very little high wearing equipment in the plant and it should be very easy to maintain, if routine maintenance takes place.
The main pieces of equipment that need maintenance are limited to the following:
- Filter presses – Cloth maintenance.
- Pumps – Most of the pumps are identical and with a few standby units they can be quickly changed and repaired as a planned maintenance.
- Agitators – The agitators have not been designed on the limit and will operate, on standby power. As long as they are not started in sanded conditions they will only need planned maintenance.
- Mechanical seals – these are precision devices that need a trained technician to keep them maintained and set up properly.
